MOTS-c research overview

Researchers who order MOTS-c UK from us typically work in the following areas. All of the work summarised here is preclinical – cell-culture and animal-model research – and is not evidence of any effect in people.

AMPK and glucose metabolism

MOTS-c is studied as a regulator of the folate cycle and AMPK activation, and for its effects on glucose uptake in skeletal-muscle cell models.

Ageing and exercise physiology

Animal studies have linked MOTS-c levels to age and to exercise capacity, making it a popular compound in mitochondrial and ageing research.

Purity and independent lab testing

The current MOTS-c batch (lot MS260414-06) was analysed by Freedom Diagnostics, an independent laboratory, and measured at 99.57% purity by HPLC; its identity was confirmed by mass spectrometry. Net content 43.72 mg · identity confirmed. The full certificate is shown below and on our lab reports page.

Peptides are synthesised to the published sequence, lyophilised and sealed under controlled conditions, then stored cold and away from light until they are packed for dispatch.

Reconstituting and storing MOTS-c

MOTS-c arrives as a dry, lyophilised powder. Most researchers reconstitute it with bacteriostatic water, adding the diluent slowly down the inside of the vial and swirling gently rather than shaking. Use our reconstitution calculator to work out the concentration for the volume you add.

Unopened vials keep best frozen at −20 °C, or in the fridge at 2–8 °C for shorter periods, always protected from light. Once reconstituted, keep the solution refrigerated and avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles – splitting it into aliquots helps. Our storage guide covers shelf life in detail.

Laboratory handling checklist for MOTS-c

  • Let the sealed vial reach room temperature before opening, so moisture does not condense on the powder.
  • Wipe the rubber septum with 70% isopropyl alcohol and work on a clean surface.
  • Add the diluent slowly down the inside wall of the vial and swirl gently until the powder has dissolved – do not shake.
  • Label the vial with the concentration, the date of reconstitution and the batch number.
  • Keep reconstituted solutions at 2–8 °C, protected from light, and use them within the stability window of your protocol.
  • Record lot numbers in your lab notebook so results can be traced back to a specific batch.
